1.15 Facilities for treatment or disposal of solid waste or liquid effluents? Yes The OB will be dumped at earmarked sites and reclaimed biologically with native species. The rejects picked at coal washery will be accommodated in OB dumps. Effluent from HEMM washing station will be treated for oil and grease separation before discharging it out. The treated water will be used for greenbelt development within the premises. The mine discharge water normally contains coal fines which will be treated in settling ponds.

Solid waste consists of overburden material obtained during mining operations at different stages and a negligible quantity of shale / rejects separated from the excavated coal. It is proposed to handle 1046.89 M.Cu.m. of OB from the proposed JVR OCP - II Expansion which includes 14.19 M.Cu.m.is topsoil. In addition to this top soil, 0.64 M.Cu.m of top soil already stored will be utilised while reclamation.

The various factors, which can create disaster in opencast mining, are mine fires, spontaneous heating and blasting etc. The anticipated risks will be managed by implementation and periodical review of the Risk Management Plan and the affect of risk will be controlled by implementation of emergency plan into operation in case of incident.
