4.1 Spoil, overburden or mine wastes Yes The muck generated during construction phase as a result of construction of HRT, dam foundation, surge shaft and construction of roads, etc shall be disposed at designated disposal sites which shall be landscaped after completion of the construction.

Operation of Batching and Mixing Plant, Stone Crushers, Concrete Mixers, etc. would lead to fugitive emissions in the form of Particulates Matter (PM). The noise likely to be generated due to operation of various construction equipment will be in range of 7—95 dB(A). As a part of the Comprehensive EIA study, detailed noise modeling study shall be conducted to predict the increase in noise level due to various construction activities including operation of various construction equipment, increased vehicular movement, etc.

6.3 From construction or demolition Yes Noise and vibrations will be generated due to operation of equipments for construction of projects such as Bulldozers, Dumpers, Scrappers, Rollers, etc. Most of these emissions will be temporary in nature and will occur only during construction stage of the project. However, proper noise control measures shall be proposed in the EMP.
6.4 From blasting or piling Yes Blasting may be required for construction of diversion channel, HRT, dam foundation, surge shaft, construction of roads etc. This will be controlled blasting and shall take place during the daytime only. As this will be intermittent in nature and shall be for a very small durations, no serious impact is envisaged. Details will be worked out during EIA studies with special focus on areas close to habitation so that appropriate mitigation measures can be designed.
6.5 From construction or operational traffic Yes During construction phase, there will be increase in vehicular movement for transportation of construction material. During construction phase, the increase in vehicular movement is expected to increase substantially. Based on past experience, impacts on ambient noise levels due to operation of construction equipment, and increased vehicular movement is not expected to be significant. However, this aspect shall be covered in detail as a part of the Comprehensive EIA study.

To minimize their occurrence adequate safety measures will be adopted in design and additionally, to control minor accidents on sites, Safe Operating Procedures (SOPs) will be developed and implemented for all contractors activities.
