7.NASir, The Project Proponent vide letter dated 11.07.2023 has informed that no any direct communication received from Department of Mining and Geology to Hindalco after receiving the proceeding of lapse of mines lease dated 12.10.2022 from Dept. of Steel & Mines Govt. of Odisha. Subsequently Hindalco has filed a writ petition on 28.12.2022 to Hon’ble High Court to quash and set aside order bearing dated 12.10.2022 passed by Additional Secretary Steel & Mines Department, Government of Odisha. Hon’ble High Court of Odisha On 30.01.2023 passed an order, directed that “the impugned order dated 12th October, 2022 will be treated as being kept in abeyance till such time, the pending process before the MoEF&CC and the Expert Appraisal Committee (EAC) regarding grant of environmental clearance is not complete. The effect of this will be that during the said process, no steps will be taken by the Department of Steel and Mines, Government of Odisha to grant the lease in question to any other third party”. However, the Environmental Clearance (EC) shall be granted to a project having valid mine lease as on date. Since the mine lease is in question, the Project Proponent needs to submit the current status of the mine lease from the State Govt. for further necessary action in the matter. 25 Sep 2023
