This is with reference to letter no. 43011/103/2008-CPAM dated 22^nd September of MOC forwarding the aforesaid proposal which was considered in the meeting of the Expert Appraisal Committee (Thermal & Coal Mining Projects) held on October 20^th –21^st 2008. It was noted that the proposal is for obtaining EC at the time of renewal of lease for Ray Bachra UG mine for a production capacity of 0.3 MTPA involving an ML area of 1215.45 ha.

The proponent made a presentation. It was informed that the total surface rights is 200 ha. Method of mining is Bord& Pillar and depillaring with caving is envisaged. Balance life of mine is less than 2 years.

The Committee desired that the Final Mine Closure Plan should incorporate specific measures for sealing the mine with series of boulders and concrete. EIA-EMP Report with one season data on env. quality should also be furnished and may also address issues pertaining to decontamination of soil, groundwater contamination vis-à-vis remedial measures required, if any. The Committee decided that in view that it is a small mine with underground operations, it may not be necessary for conduct of Public Hearing.
